Join BCBHAS President Silvia Mangue Alene and BCBHAS Board Members for the launch of Black History Month 2024.
This will be a great start to learn more about the diversity of stories of Black people in BC. The newcomers, dating back to 1858, were skilled bakers, business owners, carpenters, masons, tailors, teachers; they became property owners, business owners, politicians, and achieved many “firsts”.

You will hear about our work, BHM 2024 events, enjoy amazing food catered by ‘Elk & The Tide’, and love the music of ‘Locrian Tones’.
Locrian Tones band members are of African and Caribbean descent, infusing neo-soul melodies with Latin and Afro-soul grooves.
“Emerging out of a difficult lockdown/pandemic period, Locrian tones started as a way for musicians to re-connect with each other. Isolation gives us a new appreciation for community, friendship, family and the role music plays in uplifting the quality of our lives.”
