ABOUT THE TOUR: Did you know there are more than 50 Black Pioneers and/or their descendants at Ross Bay Cemetery? This is a guided tour of a few of their graves and others who were influential in the migration of Blacks to this British Colony. The tour hosts are James Gatsi, CEO of a local tech company – CL Web Developers and BC Black History Awareness Society member; and John Adams, Old Cemeteries Society member and owner-operator of “Discover the Past Walking Tours”.

AND – this year there will be a special tribute given by Captain (Ret’d) D.L. Gibson, MMM, CD; one of our members and a member of the Last Post Fund. She will be honoring Richard Stokes (1835-1885), Private, Victoria Pioneer Rifle Corps. A new grave marker was just installed on November 10, 2023.

AND – In the summer of 2023 the Society received funding to restore up to 9 grave markers. The project is ongoing, a few of the grave markers that have been restored will be visited as part of this tour.
