The service includes a presentation by Karen Hoshal, a descendant of the Alexander Family who were instrumental in building the 1st church, later rebuilt at its current location. The Shady Creek Church is now the Central Saanich United Church, 7180 E Saanich Rd, Saanichton, BC V8M 1Y4.
In February 2024 this church was designated a Heritage Building by the District of Central Saanich. The plaque was presented to Karen by the Mayor, Central Saanich District.
