Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1989, St. Ann’s Academy was established by the Sisters of St. Ann in 1858 — the same year Black pioneers arrived in BC. The Academy’s chapel, Victoria’s first Roman Catholic church, and its beautifully preserved grounds stand as testament to the city’s earliest history.
